Event: Emergency Repairs, Part Two

EMERGENCY REPAIRS
The tablets finally finish their download in the early afternoon. The tablet beeps and the program opens immediately to a network that looks very much like their normal one, albeit empty of conversation. Then, a voice and a face--it's one some may recognize as that of Robert Miller.

"Let's make things appear in a way you'll understand, shall we?"

For those outside, this seems to do nothing. For those down in the depths, however, they will find themselves compelled to enter the normal room if they weren't already there. The bizarre, incomprehensible room begins to shift and go dark. Similarly, it seems as if the others down with them are vanishing as well--but only certain people are vanishing, depending on who you are. Everyone sees different people disappearing, until only a small group remains. Finally the tablets of those outside display the room in the depths and the people in it. Some of the people in it. Everyone who signed up has been split into groups, and only group members will be able to see each other. Each group is connected to one of the areas in the town, and those still in town may only interact with and see members of their representative group.

The groups are as follows:

Residential Zone One
Angel ([personal profile] phaseshifter)
Quark ([personal profile] averytinyparticle)
Tavros Nitram ([personal profile] uncertainty)

Residential Zone Two
Fiona ([personal profile] plundering)
Charlie ([personal profile] mightyratslayer)
Zach Spencer ([personal profile] majorlazer)

Ice Tunnels
John Watson ([personal profile] jumpthegun)
Frisk ([personal profile] despiteeverything)
Haurchefant Greystone ([personal profile] silverfuller)

Downtown
Rhys ([personal profile] headjacked)
Enoch ([personal profile] warriorscribe)
Rydia ([personal profile] blessedmaiden)
Cecil Palmer ([personal profile] staytunednext)

Robert begins to speak again. "The administrator is no longer in control--at least for this little stretch of time. I'll explain what she meant before: if you don't do repairs here quickly, people outside will begin to die. But trying to repair the whole thing all at once would be pretty difficult, so having groups is much easier. You're each responsible for part of the town. Your efforts will hinder the other groups--not only because people work better when they're competing but because I find it's much more efficient to give resources based on skill level. Enter the other room whenever you're ready, and don't worry--you can talk to the people you're responsible for over the network. Behave! They can see you."

The video stops. This network is the only one available for the duration of the event, and so no one in a different group or area may communicate with each other. There is no option for private messaging or filtering here. Each group will be tasked with doing the repairs, but it seems as if Robert has very kindly rearranged things in a way that can be understood. Entering the repair room, it seems the angles have straightened out and the colors have quieted. It seems very small, in fact. There's a door, locked, and holes in the wall, large enough for the arms (or legs, if one is so inclined and so flexible) of each group member. The instruction is simple: "Reach into the holes for identification. All group members must participate." Simple, right? But that surely isn't everything you have to do...

As the event progresses, groups will be presented with various tasks that they must complete. Some will be simple, and some will be difficult. Things start out at even difficulty, but the more any one group falls behind, the more difficult things will be, and the less they will have available to work with. Those outside may help their group via communication over the network, but they cannot see or interact with any other group. Interactions between the group underground will take place in the log post.

There will be an OOC thread for group communication and for group answers, one per group number. Most of the time the problems posed will be ones that only need to be played out to solve, although sometimes there will be specific correct answers that must be presented. There will also be a progressing symptom list for those stuck in buildings above ground. It seems like Robert wasn't lying about that, either.

Good luck.

The group decides to give out three more bars of energy.

Describe the house in which the Prophet lived.
After much cajoling of a mildly delirious Kesara from Zach, promising stories and mainly to never ever act like an idiot ever again, she agrees to let House look at the pictures of the Prophet's house on her tablet, and House describes it to the group:
A-frame house, two floors, standard Norfinbury style. There's a glass case with school sports trophies in the living room. One of the bedrooms - the Prophet's - is full of sports crap and posters of female athletes.

What is the current calendar day?
January 18th

Who in town is acting as a mole?
After some deliberation, they decide to go and answer this with Winter's name.

What does the eye symbol mean?
It's some kind of representation that the Admin is watchin.

What happened to Norfinbury?
There was a plague, and then there were violent protests, and it was terrible.

Deliberating, the group decides to go for someone who, they hope, will understand when they get out. They pick someone who they know is old and wise and mature and will forgive them. Zach does say, as he presses the button under Enoch's picture, that he does not hate him, and fuck you, Robert.

Discussing it with people topside, Zach comes up with the subsequent answer: "Nausea, headaches, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, blisters, and a fever. Sudden poop. Possibly perception-based symptoms, not real."

The group decides to give four bars of energy.

Voting:
1) ice tunnels
2) res zone two ONE
3) downtown

Because the group 1) doesn't want to vote for anyone twice, and 2) wants to avoid voting for childrens as much as possible.

After some arguing, they decide to vote for themselves each time. Fiona is also going to say, "Fuck you, Robert Miller." Just... you know. In case.

Fiona is going to stick anything that fits into the hole—bits of her clothes and her hair, mostly, but she won't stick her fingers in. Charlie will be sticking the fingers of the display hand from the jewelry store in, and if nothing happens, he'll lick the hand's finger and try again. Basically, they're all going to do everything they can not to lose a finger! Finger losing will be their last resort, and if any of those works (the hair, the clothes or the mannequin hand), the others will copy and follow suit.

As for the maze, the group will be guided by Bucky and House, who will be switching off as their symptoms allow. The group will stick together. Fiona is the shortest, so if the water starts to get too high, Zach will rescue her and try to help keep her head above water!

edit: keep on forgetting about this part!!! The group will give two energy bars to the Admin.

The group will discuss these questions, mainly with House and Ecks.

List as many potential causes for the symptoms of the aboveground as possible. Causes must encompass all symptoms, and not just some of them.
MN poisoning, a loss of WiFi connection, exposure, heavy metal poisoning, radiation poisoning, cyanide poisoning, cancer, thyroid storm, septicemic plague, ghouls

What is the year?
This year

Draw as complete a map as possible of Norfinbury.
They will copy House's map as well as possible: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aDvXvkrChMJ7wL4123XpXt0nQmRoFcg_DnsWSxAzQTM/edit#gid=0

Romeo and Juliet are found dead on the floor in a bedroom. When they were discovered, there were pieces of glass and some water on the floor. The only furniture in the room is a shelf and a bed. The house is in a remote location, away from everything except for the nearby railroad track. What caused the death of Romeo and Juliet?
They were fish and were asphyxiated. Their tank fell off the table when a train went by and shook the room.

What flies when it’s born, lies when it’s alive, and runs when it’s dead?
Snow

Who is the administrator?
The babysitter

There are three children who speak an unknown language. Fi and Bu mean yes and no respectively, but you don't know which means yes and which means no. The three children are each special. One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one decides completely at random if they will tell the truth or lie. They all understand you, but they all will only answer yes or no questions in their own language. You have three questions. How do you identify which child is which?

House and Ecks will be spending a good bit of time during the day working out the solution. First they'll label the kids A, B, and C. Once that is set, they'll ask the following:

Asking B: If I asked you 'Is A saying random shit?', would you say fi?""

If B says fi, they'll go talk to C. If the B says bu, they'll go talk to A. B's answer tells them that B may be random and just spouting off yes/no, but if they're not random,
then they know that A or C is the random one. The team is avoiding that one.

Asking A/C, depending on what B said: If I asked you 'Do you only speak lies?', would you say fi?

They know that this is not the one who only says things at random. If A/C says fi, they'll know that fi means 'yes' and this is the child who
speaks only lies. If A/C says bu, they'll know that bu means 'no' this is the child who only truths.

Asking Child A/C, depending on that first question: If I asked you 'Is B saying random shit?', would you say fi?'

Knowing what fi and bu mean and that this child only speaks truths or lies, they'll be able to get B's identity from them and then identify the final child by process of elimination."

The group will be giving the full two bars of energy!

As for the chips, Bucky has a lot of technical/computer knowledge because of super spy stuff, so he'll be helping them figure out the manual and which chip is which. He'll be helping Zach sort them, and Charlie will keep an eye on the chips and try to keep them from disappearing. To help with this, Zach will be using his tablet stand to set up one of the tablets so that the people aboveground can keep an eye on the chips, as well.

House will be helping Fiona actually install and replace the chips, because her hands are the smallest and she's probably the best with delicate work, even if she's not great with computers specifically.

Our group readily offers up the rest of our energy.

While we have the chance, though, our group will try to question the admin. Specifically, they'll ask what happened to cause all of this. If she answers, they have more questions they would like to ask!
