| Winter's post vanishes with the appearance of the prophet's eye symbol on the tablet. At the same time, some of the shadows that wander the town film over with static until they're only barely human-shaped. Their bodies pulse in time with unknown signals, and they begin moving, gathering around travelers. They pay special attention to those who have the prophet symbol on their person--even those who took steps to remove it. Unlike the other shadows, these can travel into buildings, though they cannot go through walls or doors. As more of these things gather around, the travelers will begin to feel their effects. First is the dizziness, nosebleeds, and disorientation familiar to anomalies, but as more and more collect near them, the disorientation grows. They can feel the pulse that the static shadows flicker to--their hearts stutter in time to this pulsation. The more static-covered shadows surround you, the more you forget you were ever anywhere except here--the more you forget you ever did anything else except wander the snowy, abandoned town. |
