NOISY BLACK
In the evening of night 264, the town goes still. Doors lock, tablets turn off, and there's a silence that goes beyond the norm, like the whole town is holding its breath. The converts manage to get the sinners out--it's a process, and it takes some time, but all of them are out before midnight. They find themselves in metal maintenance tunnels. It's pitch black, and it's cold, but they're out of that tower. At first, they're left to figure things out on their own, feeling around for the route away. The converts can't go through the door, after all. They're still in the building.

At midnight, the converts are struck by awful headaches as the brainwashing grips their minds and squeezes. They have the urge to go get the sinners, to finish the conversion, but they cannot reach the sinners. They cannot leave the building, and the sinners are not in the building. The headache grows until, ten to fifteen minutes after midnight, all of the converts pass out.

Down in the tunnels, a voice in the dark: Andromeda, calling, saying "this way". Even if you can't hear, you can hear this, and even if you couldn't walk, you can now. Over and over Andromeda calls, leading the sinners ever forward. The farther away from the building, the more the delirium clears and the more whole the sinners feel. Extra skin falls away and vanishes, wounds heal impossibly, and soon everyone is healed, to a degree: there are scars, and not all superficial things have been fixed, but functionality is restored, and nothing is in you or on you that shouldn't be there. There's a point of light in the distance, like a star. The sinners are drawn to it, drawing closer and closer, and when they reach it--

The town comes back online early in the morning of day 265. For one hour, everyone is rendered unconscious. After that, though, everyone is back where they should be, back where they were before they were taken away.

The tunnels have been unlocked. A series of maintenance shafts, there isn't really anything of interest here. What's useful, though, is that they can be traveled through day or night and, for the most part, only take one square of travel time to cross. Going through the winding maze takes 4 squares to cross, but this is still an improvement over braving the weather outside. Provided you start off in the right building, traveling across town is much easier now.

As for building 279? That building does not exist. It cannot be seen, though the squares it took up cannot be traveled through. It cannot be entered. It is not there.
