Event: Noisy Black; Part Three Extension

Part three of the event will be extended for one IC day. Of course, things still happen... Sinners Another night of the converts visiting to feed you or stick you with IVs, another night and day of listening to a small girl cry when the converts are gone, and another night and day of growing confusion and disorientation. There are lumps under the carpet--you can feel it, even if you can't see it. They crawl around and crackle in your ears even if you can't hear, skittering loud enough to disrupt sleep you might try to get and poking at all of the most painful parts of your body whenever you're close enough to the floor. Converted While you are still forced to feed the sinners, and for the most part you are forced to behave yourself, the brainwashing continues to wear off. You can make it onto the sinner floor now, though only for a few seconds, and you aren't able to say anything to the sinners until the brainwashing takes over again. The headaches feel worse, like your brain is trying to pull away from its bonds by force alone. You have to keep searching. There must be a way out. It's up to all of you. Outsiders At first, the situation seems the same. But, well, there are a few of you who sent messages to Andromeda, and today, a message appears on the network from @andromeda: I hear you. I see you. I will try to fix something. Maybe there's hope. Converted who are exploring may use this comment for information. The mingle log for this portion of the event is here. If a converted comes onto the sinner floor while already saying something, particularly something short and repetitive (say, a prayer or a phrase to ground themselves), will they just abruptly stop speaking when the elevator door opens or will they keep saying the thing until brainwashing kicks in?

They'll suddenly stop saying it when the door opens.

The confusion and disorientation - how far does that go? is it just about where they are, or can it extend to who they are, too?

Can a sinner hide a message on another sinner without letting them know (with ooc permission of course)? For example, could one of them write something on the back of another sinner's cloak?

Not on the cloak, since that would be defiling the garb of the prophet. On their body, yes, but they would be compelled to point it out eventually.

If the converted notice the sinner's issues with the floor will they be able to connect it to the staticpedes under the carpet on other floors?

They would off the floor, yes. They wouldn't be able to tell the sinners about that, though.

If Stephen tries to stomp on the lumps he hears and feels under the carpet, will he ever have any success with it? Asking mostly in regard to when he's sitting or laying down and would feel them under him.

His foot seems to go through the lump. His whole body feels prickly for about an hour.

Would they be able to open any of the cells for the sinners? Would the Sinners have to trick them into it?

Additional Questions! I know they can't say anything for a few seconds as they arrive on the Sinners floor. Would it be possible for a Convert to run in and grab someone's tablet while they are using it? Could they remove it from the cell block?

Related to both questions. Would a Sinner be able to stay themselves long enough to run in and unlock a cell door?

1) They won't open the cells for the sinners and won't let them escape if they attempt it.

2) No, they wouldn't make it far enough (they'd probably end up sort of confusedly slowing to a stop in the middle of the cells).

3) No.

Would they be able to see anyone walking past/or trying to get into the building from the window in their dorm or any other floor?

That's possible, yes. They wouldn't be able to see anyone right up against the building, but they could see people approaching.

New line of questioning. I know it's not possible for converts to take activated tablets up to their dorm room. But is it possible for a sinner to sneak a tablet on them? Place it on their hood or pockets or something without them being aware of it? And would they be able to take the tablet to another floor? Like the operation room?

That might be possible, though it would be very difficult and I can't think of a way for it to capture video like that for obvious reasons. If you can think of a way let me know, though! A convert would be able to take it to another floor as long as they didn't realize it was there; once they realized, they'd take it back. (Putting it in the cloaks is probably not a good idea since the converts generally take them off.)

Uh...okay so does the brainwashing have a preprogrammed answer for sinners bringing up the Prophet's identity as Samantha? Specifically that she was just a little girl and that she doesn't like what they're doing here? Or is that a thing that'll put strain on it?

That may put a strain on it if you think it would put a strain on your character, yes. They do have a response, though, which is along the lines of the sinner not understanding the will of the prophet yet.

i am specifically thinking of having brian play that second one from building ??? where Sam and Andromeda meet

It will cause the converts to leave the room with headaches. The sinners won't have any specific reaction to it.

If any converts have any special "this can happen under brainwashing strain" things like the ones you gave Enoch and Quark, can these insta-headache things like this clip and Lavender's Blue trigger them, or does leaving the room take precedence?

House told him to fight. He'd like to keep trying to break through to them face-to-face, but remembering the words he was given he decides that he has to do his absolute best with the time he has in his own mind. So instead of going down and getting splitting, incapacitating headaches over and over again when he doesn't need to, he's going to spend his time systematically checking out every floor he can. His search method will be as follows:

Starting from the highest floor he can reach down (skipping the one where the sinners are being held), he'll be searching for anything that he can reach easier than others in regards to his smaller size. This would be underneath any pieces of furniture, bolted or otherwise, inside cupboards and drawers that are down low to the ground, feeling around the edges of carpeting for any kind of give. He'll even knock around on the floor and on walls and inside cupboards looking for hidden compartments or fake walls or anything that may not be easily noticed by sight.

There's no sign of fake walls or floors or anything like that. The cupboards are empty, but crawling inside, the shadows in the corners seem to twitch and shiver like frightened animals. He can pull up loose carpet a little (only a little more than it's already damaged), and when he does this in the sinner cells, skittering, black static insects speed off into the staircase area and seem to vanish.

Is he checking literally every floor?

Yes, if it's feasible for him to do over the course of the whole day (and if you include the previous IC day as well, I would've initially had him start then) factoring in breaks to go and feed Beckett and Castiel!

If he tried to speak to the shadows in a calming way or attempted to interact with them in any way (slowly and cautiously extending a hand toward them), would that produce any individual results?

It would be feasible, yes! Go, Quark, go. The shadows skitter away from his hands and don't respond to his voice. They don't leave the cupboards, at least.

The operating room floor sounds a little hollow in the area around the operating table.

Enoch is going to go down to the operating room and examine the machine the sinners were hooked up to in detail - are there any buttons, switches, status screens, labels? Is it against the wall, is there anything behind it, is it raised off the floor and if so can he look under it?

Also out of spite he's going to hum to the tune of Lavender's Blue as he searches if he's able.

It looks sort of like a hospital's heartbeat monitor, but the screen is larger and there are a lot more tubes and wires that would connect to a patient. There is a screen, but as it's not hooked up to anything and turned off, it's blank. Were he to turn it on (the power switch is labeled), it would screech angrily about not being able to detect any life signs, as it's not attached to anything. If he can figure out how to attach anything to himself or someone else (he can't remember how now), it would display various life signs, but it wouldn't do anything else. The machine is plugged into the wall and can be moved if the wheels are unlocked There's only dust bunnies under it, though (the normal kind, luckily).

Singing Lavender's Blue in the operating room makes the atmosphere feel very thick and heavy.

Observing how something is put together and applying it is how Enoch learns best! (I mean seriously he's done this with a totally alien weapon and a hand cart in canon.) So yeah he'll be able to figure out how to hook at least part of it up to himself. Are the life signs displayed clearly labeled? Would he be able to identify any of them by trial and error?

Also he's going to hum more forcefully and then begin singing actual lyrics, and watch his own life signs (whether he knows what each one is or not) while he does because why the hell not, it's not like he thinks it can get much worse.

It looks kind of like this, so it would be difficult to puzzle out, but he might be able to figure out some of it just by trial and error.

Also damn. He'll turn the thing off so it doesn't screech at him when he unhooks himself, and he's going to start going about the room and moving aside anything that's not bolted down. Back to normal volume/force humming because singing helps.

He'll follow the machine's cord back to the wall and examine its plug and socket. Aaaand this includes peering inside the socket as well as he can due to general unfamiliarity. Prying the panel off the wall might be in order if it doesn't count as damaging the building, but I suspect it does. Good thing he doesn't have anything on him to prod it with.

The operating table moves, though its wheels need to be unlocked. Beneath it is a trap door. The light is glowing green. No convert can touch the trap door.

EDIT: The plug looks like all the other plugs in town. There isn't anything that can be seen in the socket really. He can't pry the panel off, sorry Enoch. Maybe he can discover the wonders of electrical wiring later.

Also are they compelled not to touch it the same way they had no desire to leave the room at first or does something happen if they try?
