SUBJECTIVITY

Mere moments after lockdown on night 91, all of the tablets in Norfinbury become consumed with fizzling static. Their screens display only this unhelpful gray static, and no amount of tinkering or tampering with the tablet will remedy the issue. This continues for an hour, during which time all of the tablets are useless except as a light source. In this time, insomnia also begins to set in, so any characters who might take the opportunity to go to bed will find themselves tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Eventually, the tablet screens flicker and resume their normal appearance, with all of the characters' applications and customizations intact. Scrolling back through posts made before the malfunction reveals nothing out of the ordinary, but as posts start to flow in following the strange static, it's clear that something is amiss. All posts made during the night are of a rather gruesome nature. The words of the characters become twisted. Sad, violent, and downright cruel messages appear over text and voice, and over video, characters are snuck up on and attacked--sometimes by monsters, but sometimes by figures who are much more familiar. This behavior is uncharacteristic for some, but there's always a certain quality to the messages that makes it uncertain as to if the person might have really said it, maybe a familiar verbal tic or typing style... However, none of these messages are what is actually being sent by the characters, they are just how the messages will appear on the network. Messages will appear normal to the sender, but everyone else will see a different version. We ask that players come up with what their characters' messages will appear to be, and use different text formatting in your tags to indicate OOCly what the message has transformed into! A different text color for the corrupted message is a good example. This will continue throughout the night and into the morning of day 92. At noon on day 92, the tablet screens briefly flash with static again, and the characters are relieved of their insomnia. Scrolling back through posts made during the chaos will show that they have reverted to their normal state, with no evidence of the gruesome messages that appeared before. is there any sort of theme we should be going for? other than mean and evil.
also i should/shouldn't have familiar to one canon or another things in video? like say, strangely tall men.

You have pretty free creative reign with this! And you can reference things from your character's canon if you want to.

What happens if two characters sitting in the same room message each other?

They will still suffer the effects. They will also still see the strange things on the other person's tablet if they happen to look.

So, the distortions/weird stuff are limited to the tablet, right? And if anyone does any voice calling, anyone else in the room will hear normal stuff from the person's mouth, but if they listen to it on the network then it'll go weird?

They may believe they heard whatever fake thing was being said, but more indistinctly than the real things being said.

What if they try to discuss it off-line, will they somehow be convinced that the corrupted things are correct or will it be easy to figure out that something not right?

It would be possible to discuss it offline, though it's also possible that they'll receive (fake, of course) tablet messages saying that they're being lied to.

If two characters are traveling together, and they message each other and then show each other the strange messages on the tablet, will each person see their own message (on the other's tablet) as how they sent it, or as how it appears on the network?

Each person will see their own messages as normal and messages other people sent as abnormal no matter whose tablet they're looking at.

Should all messages be affected (as in, answers to threads from night 91 on)?

Not literally every message has to be effected, but a lot of them will be, so a conversation is likely to have at least a few. Any network communication that takes place on night 91 or morning 92 is subject to the event.

Will tablet accessibility functions like voice to text/the like also be affected by the event? As in, would a character using these functions also see/hear the distorted versions, would they be somewhat different, or would they get the translated normal messages like usual?

Voice to text will also be effected, so characters will hear the distorted versions of text posts.

Soooo in terms of video horribleness, is it all about monster/canon evilness attacks, or can other horrible things be happening? Like idk, a character becoming deformed or looking like they're trapped or freezing to death or the like?
