Event: Emergency Repairs, Part Two
The tablets finally finish their download in the early afternoon. The tablet beeps and the program opens immediately to a network that looks very much like their normal one, albeit empty of conversation. Then, a voice and a face--it's one some may recognize as that of Robert Miller. "Let's make things appear in a way you'll understand, shall we?" For those outside, this seems to do nothing. For those down in the depths, however, they will find themselves compelled to enter the normal room if they weren't already there. The bizarre, incomprehensible room begins to shift and go dark. Similarly, it seems as if the others down with them are vanishing as well--but only certain people are vanishing, depending on who you are. Everyone sees different people disappearing, until only a small group remains. Finally the tablets of those outside display the room in the depths and the people in it. Some of the people in it. Everyone who signed up has been split into groups, and only group members will be able to see each other. Each group is connected to one of the areas in the town, and those still in town may only interact with and see members of their representative group. The groups are as follows: Residential Zone One Angel ( ![]() Quark ( ![]() Tavros Nitram ( ![]() Residential Zone Two Fiona ( ![]() Charlie ( ![]() Zach Spencer ( ![]() Ice Tunnels John Watson ( ![]() Frisk ( ![]() Haurchefant Greystone ( ![]() Downtown Rhys ( ![]() Enoch ( ![]() Rydia ( ![]() Cecil Palmer ( ![]() Robert begins to speak again. "The administrator is no longer in control--at least for this little stretch of time. I'll explain what she meant before: if you don't do repairs here quickly, people outside will begin to die. But trying to repair the whole thing all at once would be pretty difficult, so having groups is much easier. You're each responsible for part of the town. Your efforts will hinder the other groups--not only because people work better when they're competing but because I find it's much more efficient to give resources based on skill level. Enter the other room whenever you're ready, and don't worry--you can talk to the people you're responsible for over the network. Behave! They can see you." The video stops. This network is the only one available for the duration of the event, and so no one in a different group or area may communicate with each other. There is no option for private messaging or filtering here. Each group will be tasked with doing the repairs, but it seems as if Robert has very kindly rearranged things in a way that can be understood. Entering the repair room, it seems the angles have straightened out and the colors have quieted. It seems very small, in fact. There's a door, locked, and holes in the wall, large enough for the arms (or legs, if one is so inclined and so flexible) of each group member. The instruction is simple: "Reach into the holes for identification. All group members must participate." Simple, right? But that surely isn't everything you have to do... As the event progresses, groups will be presented with various tasks that they must complete. Some will be simple, and some will be difficult. Things start out at even difficulty, but the more any one group falls behind, the more difficult things will be, and the less they will have available to work with. Those outside may help their group via communication over the network, but they cannot see or interact with any other group. Interactions between the group underground will take place in the log post. There will be an OOC thread for group communication and for group answers, one per group number. Most of the time the problems posed will be ones that only need to be played out to solve, although sometimes there will be specific correct answers that must be presented. There will also be a progressing symptom list for those stuck in buildings above ground. It seems like Robert wasn't lying about that, either. Good luck. |

A-frame with wooden floors and walls over nearly-indestructible metal plating. There is an electronic noise in the walls.
January 18
No one. (If this is an unacceptable answer they will choose the alternative of @robertmiller.)
It is a symbol for the Admin.
There were protests against a babysitter and a devastating plague.

They will ultimately press the button to select Enoch.

TASK ONE: two points (tied with every other group)
TASK TWO: four points
TASK THREE: one point
TOTAL: twenty-six points
They're well ahead of their quota. Good job!

"Between these two groups, if one has to fail, which would you rather fail?"
They have to choose first between residential zone one and residential zone two, second between residential zone one and downtown, and third between residential zone two and downtown.

Watson's response to the photos is a snort: "Do they? Reckon I shouldn't've made fun of Angel's jumper that one time." Haurchefant is similarly dismissive.
They'll choose the following:
Zone Two
Downtown
Downtown

"Between these two groups, if one has to fail, which would you rather fail?"
Again they must choose three times: between their own group and residential zone one, between their own group and the ice tunnels, and between their own group and downtown.

After this, the wall dilates open to reveal the second half of the room: it's another maze. It seems they only have to get to the end this time. They can see, but the whole thing is a twisting labyrinth. Those outside watching their struggles have a bird's eye view. There's water on the ground. The room is slowly filling up with it.
Robert's voice speaks: "Two groups hate one of your members the most." A five-pound weight is attached to the ankles of Watson and Haurchefant. Nothing further happens.
They have the rest of the day to work their way through the maze before they drown. Results will be given when all groups finish. Good luck.

Will a pen or pen-like object count as a sacrifice?
Will a tuft of hair
Haurchefant's beautiful silver elf haircount as a sacrifice? Will the tip of an ear count as a sacrifice if they can get it in there?

First, Watson will be trying his red pen. When that's a no-go, Frisk will suggest they try tufts of hair. When that works, they'll each offer a tuft of their hair. GOODBYE FAIREST LOCKS.
Barbers everywhere in the snowpocalypse weep.If the weights are the sorts to be on chains attached to their ankles, Watson and Haurchefant will be picking them up and carrying them as opposed to dragging them along. If not, that's really irritating, and Robert needs to find new forms of entertainment apart from making them struggle.
Regardless, they'll ask the people outside to plot a way through the maze for them. This is assuming the people outside can see the entire maze all at once. (CAN THEY???) Even if they can't, Sheena, Cloud, Leon, and Alfie will coordinate to work out a path through each section or through the entire maze. They will trade off directing the group through.
If the water gets too high, Haurchefant will pick up Frisk and carry them. If it gets even higher before they're done to threaten Haurchefant because of his armor, he will remove that and move on. Watson and Frisk will help with that as best they can because they're not leaving tol elf behind.

They're well ahead of quota! Good job! Maybe you can use the blankets on the beds as towels!

Also, is the break room heated? Because they sure would like to wring their clothes out.
EDIT: Also, are they allowed to keep things from the break room? Like, can they appropriate the blankets and such?
EDIT 2: Also, we're assuming the weights came off after the maze. Is this true?

2) The break room is heated in that it's standard room temperature, yes.
3) Yes, though if they remove a blanket (for example) they will find that same blanket missing in the next break room.
4) Yes.

You do not have to get all questions correct to proceed, but the more you get correct, the more points your group will get. You will be told how well your group did in comparison to the others, but not how many questions you got correct or which questions you got correct. This is the only task of the day. Good luck.

First they'll explain to the children that they're going to refer to them as Child 1, Child 2, and Child 3, respectively, so that everyone knows who they're talking about. Once that is set, they'll ask the following:
Asking Child 2: If I asked you 'Is Child 1 saying things at random?', would you say fi?"
If Child 2 says fi, they will go talk to Child 3. If the Child 2 says bu, they will go talk to Child 1. Child 2's answer tells them that Child 2 may be random and just spouting off yes/no, but if they're not random, then they know that Child 1 or Child 3 is the random one. Their goal is to avoid that one.
Asking Child 1/3, depending on what Child 2 said: If I asked you 'Do you only speak lies?', would you say fi?
They know that this is not the one who only says things at random. If Child 1/3 says fi, they'll know that fi means 'yes' and this is the child who speaks only lies. If Child 1/3 says bu, they'll know that bu means 'no' this is the child who only truths.
Asking Child 1/3, depending on that first question: If I asked you 'Is Child 2 saying things at random?', would you say fi?'
Knowing what fi and bu mean and that this child only speaks truths or lies, they'll be able to get Child 2's identity from them and then identify the final child by process of elimination.

TASK ONE: three points (tied for second with the downtown zone, beaten by the residential zones)
TOTAL: twenty-four points
They're about even with their quota.

This is the only task today.

John will take point on the technical manual because he is the only modern person on the team. Given Leon's expertise with machines and computers, in particular, Watson will work with him to go through the manual and direct Frisk and Haurchefant. Frisk will actually be replacing damaged chips per Watson's instructions. and they and Haurchefant will find the right ones based on John's description. Haurchefant will be on chip-wrangling duty. If the box the chips are in can be picked up, Haurchefant will simply sit down and place it on his lap to stop them from phasing through the table to the ground. If it can't be moved, Haurchefant will spread one of the blankets from the break room beneath the table and periodically collect any chips that have fallen out onto it.
They will work as efficiently as possible, Frisk replacing some chips while Haurchefant looks for the next ones they'll need.
