Event: Emergency Repairs, Part Two
The tablets finally finish their download in the early afternoon. The tablet beeps and the program opens immediately to a network that looks very much like their normal one, albeit empty of conversation. Then, a voice and a face--it's one some may recognize as that of Robert Miller. "Let's make things appear in a way you'll understand, shall we?" For those outside, this seems to do nothing. For those down in the depths, however, they will find themselves compelled to enter the normal room if they weren't already there. The bizarre, incomprehensible room begins to shift and go dark. Similarly, it seems as if the others down with them are vanishing as well--but only certain people are vanishing, depending on who you are. Everyone sees different people disappearing, until only a small group remains. Finally the tablets of those outside display the room in the depths and the people in it. Some of the people in it. Everyone who signed up has been split into groups, and only group members will be able to see each other. Each group is connected to one of the areas in the town, and those still in town may only interact with and see members of their representative group. The groups are as follows: Residential Zone One Angel ( ![]() Quark ( ![]() Tavros Nitram ( ![]() Residential Zone Two Fiona ( ![]() Charlie ( ![]() Zach Spencer ( ![]() Ice Tunnels John Watson ( ![]() Frisk ( ![]() Haurchefant Greystone ( ![]() Downtown Rhys ( ![]() Enoch ( ![]() Rydia ( ![]() Cecil Palmer ( ![]() Robert begins to speak again. "The administrator is no longer in control--at least for this little stretch of time. I'll explain what she meant before: if you don't do repairs here quickly, people outside will begin to die. But trying to repair the whole thing all at once would be pretty difficult, so having groups is much easier. You're each responsible for part of the town. Your efforts will hinder the other groups--not only because people work better when they're competing but because I find it's much more efficient to give resources based on skill level. Enter the other room whenever you're ready, and don't worry--you can talk to the people you're responsible for over the network. Behave! They can see you." The video stops. This network is the only one available for the duration of the event, and so no one in a different group or area may communicate with each other. There is no option for private messaging or filtering here. Each group will be tasked with doing the repairs, but it seems as if Robert has very kindly rearranged things in a way that can be understood. Entering the repair room, it seems the angles have straightened out and the colors have quieted. It seems very small, in fact. There's a door, locked, and holes in the wall, large enough for the arms (or legs, if one is so inclined and so flexible) of each group member. The instruction is simple: "Reach into the holes for identification. All group members must participate." Simple, right? But that surely isn't everything you have to do... As the event progresses, groups will be presented with various tasks that they must complete. Some will be simple, and some will be difficult. Things start out at even difficulty, but the more any one group falls behind, the more difficult things will be, and the less they will have available to work with. Those outside may help their group via communication over the network, but they cannot see or interact with any other group. Interactions between the group underground will take place in the log post. There will be an OOC thread for group communication and for group answers, one per group number. Most of the time the problems posed will be ones that only need to be played out to solve, although sometimes there will be specific correct answers that must be presented. There will also be a progressing symptom list for those stuck in buildings above ground. It seems like Robert wasn't lying about that, either. Good luck. |

GOOD LIFE CHOICES.

After this, the wall dilates open to reveal the second half of the room: it's another maze. It seems they only have to get to the end this time. They can see, but the whole thing is a twisting labyrinth. Those outside watching their struggles have a bird's eye view. There's water on the ground. The room is slowly filling up with it.
Robert's voice speaks: "One group decided you should fail." One five-pound weight is attached to the ankle of each member of the group. "Two groups hate one of your members the most." Two additional five-pound weights are attached to the ankle of Enoch. Nothing further happens.
They have the rest of the day to work their way through the maze before they drown. Results will be given when all groups finish. Good luck.

They'll also carry their weights, since that's easier than dragging them along the floor, and will run at top speed all the way through the maze. Enoch, though, with the extra weight + a not-so-great usual speed, is struggling.

EDIT: IT IS WORTH MENTIONING ENOCH CANNOT SWIM. So yeah. If he dies it's his own damn fault for not picking up a basic skill in almost four hundred years of life.

And on a second note, if she and Enoch fall too far behind she's going to throw away her bottles of drinks, stuff all the things inside her bag and use an upside down basket and her shower curtain to improvise a small pocket of air for both of them.

TASK ONE: one point
TASK TWO: one point
TASK THREE: one point
TOTAL: twenty points
They're about even with their quota.
Funny thing, when HoloJack tries to peer through the maze room--it doesn't look like a maze room at all, for an instant. Instead it's a ruined, underground room, with metal walls torn apart and icy water dripping in, flooding precious, important circuitry. It seems like they're not so much running through a featureless maze as navigating and adjusting a maze of computer chips and wires, working at inhuman speeds. It only lasts for a moment, though. Weird.

You do not have to get all questions correct to proceed, but the more you get correct, the more points your group will get. You will be told how well your group did in comparison to the others, but not how many questions you got correct or which questions you got correct. This is the only task of the day. Good luck.

2) Time is not real
3) Using a screenshot from Kunsel's map application (which he has been filling in regularly, though it's not as accurate as the OOC map), Zell's screenshots of House's map, Brian's copy of Tim's tunnel map, Rydia's personal map, and Al's knowledge of town, they produce a map.
4) Romeo and Juliet are fish and their fish tank was knocked over by the train vibrations.
5) Snow.
6) One of us
7) To Child A ask: “If I asked you ‘Is Child B called Random?’, would you say ‘fi’?”.
If the answer is ‘fi’ choose child C for the next question, else choose child B.
To that child ask: “If I asked you ‘Are you called True?’ would you say ‘fi’?”
If the answer is ‘fi’ then that child is called True else False.
To that same child ask: “If I asked you ‘Is child A called Random?’ would you say ‘fi’?” If the answer is ‘fi’ then child A is called Random else whichever is left of the other two (True or False).
The remaining child is called whatever is left.

In the first question all the Final Fantasy people (Four, from three different worlds) add "Malboro's Bad Breath' to the first reply because they're the worst.

TASK ONE: three points (tied for second with the ice tunnels, beaten by the residential zones)
TOTAL: twenty-three points
They're a tiny bit below their quota--but then the administrator whispers to them--"I will help you"--and they gain one bar of energy, allowing them to meet their quota.

This is the only task today.

SECOND: Rhys HAS THIS ON LOCK. He launches into action, taking up the mantle of Tech Support for the group. Cecil, lacking in the finger department but not lacking at all in the Weird Reality Warping Shit department, acts as their eyes, constantly observing/singing Christmas songs, because Why Not. HoloJack helps with that endeavor, with less singing. Not 0 singing, just less. That leaves Rydia and Enoch as worker bees, collecting and carrying out Rhys' detailed yet effective instructions. Rydia has a basket for ease of collection, and they'll both be doing the replacing as well. If they struggle at all, Rhys is going to step in and help physically, since his single hand does at least have all its fingers. As a Bossy Middle Manager he will keep things smooth and efficient. A bossy middle manager in a yellow ducky bathrobe.
